Denis Wick: 5526 Trumpet Practice Mute

| Trumpet or Cornet

Publisher: Denis Wick Products

Denis Wick Practice Mutes are perhaps the best teaching aid ever invented! Not only do they fulfil the need for the ‘in-tune’ painless practice – essential for the development of every young player and an indispensable ‘hotel mute’ for the professional – but they also make possible an enormous improvement in tone quality using the entire vital capacity as a vibrating air column by opening the throat spaces through playing loudly in the low register. They are excellent value for money, costing less than the electronic practice mutes available, which do not develop the sound in the same way.

For Trumpet or Cornet.

Very good practice mute. Helps you develop better sound quality and better performance overall.
Sound is a bit buzzy but is to be expected from practice mutes.

Very effective mute helping with practice both in terms of sound reduction and breathing effort

I was at first looking for a 'silent mute system' but discovered that Dennis Wick produced a viable practice product which did not require electrical connectivity. Finding that 'Musicroom' stocked the product I purchased one for cornet. The practice mute arrived in good time and I have used it every day finding that it suits my purpose very well. It reduced the sound output considerably while at the same time allowing for both tonal and tuneful practice. I have been surprised too at the fact that the effort used is not much different than using a 'normal' straight mute. The range is also very good and took just a little practice to achieve excellent results even in the higher registers. Thank you very much for your help and prompt services. I would also appreciate a catalogue per 'snail-mail' if that is at all possible.

This is a great bit of kit! Cornet practice can now be heard only in the room it's being done in (rather than in our next-door neighbour's house as well!) Looks well-made and gives a good clear tone (slightly deadened of course as with any mute). Note for anyone thinking of buying their first mute: this one takes only a bit more puff than playing unmuted. Fits very easily; best done by pushing it gently into the bell with a slight twist (the twist action holds it neatly in place.)
