I am thrilled with this beginners Alto Saxophone book which covers everything from assembling and cleaning the instrument to learning to play. Sixty-four pages of clear diagrams, instructions and methodical lay-out completely prevent the frustrations that usually accompany learning a new instrument. There are tips to remind you of points you learnt previously and a range of new musical exercises for each day, ranging from easy to more difficult. The book has twenty lessons (which will take me more than twenty days to learn!) There is a pull-out fingering chart included in the middle of the book and the CD contains 97 tracks to accompany you as you play the student notes. This is an important part of the tuition, making sure that you play at the correct speed as well as the correct timing and notes! I am an adult but would recommend this book for all ages. I found the DVD disappointing as it only covered the first lesson of the 20 in the book. However, it covers handling the sax, assembly and cleaning, embouchure (mouth position), finger positioning for the first three notes and the basics of treble clef notation.
