A very good book which lets itself down with a misleading title - it is everything except a collection of guitar solos. It is a collection of 11 complete self-penned mini rock/blues songs (some as short as 28 bars)to enable you to practice your guitar playing. It is not meant for beginners but novices could have a go at some songs.
The CD is great, and includes backing tracks with the lead guitar missing, but the author has tended to use the same guitar tone for all the tracks which is not always appropriate.
Where the book scores very highly is that it actually contains the complete score for four instruments - lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bass and drums. The caveat is that the drum tab is not the ones I have seen in UK books. But as the drum sequences are fairly basic it doesn't matter.
This book is great for an improving guitarist, but the best use for this book is for inexperienced players forming a band to practice good but generic songs. The book covers a range of guitar techniques.
Apart from the poor title the reason I have marked it down to 4 stars is because it contains no helpful text. By adding a bit of guidance it could be so much more. Let's face it, Slash or Bonamassa aren't going to buy this book, so a little tutorial wouldn't go amiss.
