Been a huge fan of the film version of 'The Firm' and wanted to get a closer look at how Dave Grusin's music underlay the drama, a particular favourite being "Ray's Blues". Great to see a transposition to the page of Grusin's fabulous blues playing.
Nothing, but don't expect to be able to "sound" like Dave Grusin on the soundtrack - the map is not the territory and the 'blues feel' has to be there before you open the score.

I bought this book just for the 2017 ABRSM grade 7 piano C6 piece, but there are so many more fun pieces in the book. I've loved exploring them and would definitely recommend it.

This is a fantastic music book - if you loved the music from 'The Firm' then you will love this. Dave Grusin's jazz piano tracks are perfectly transcribed and a pleasure to play, leaving the other songs as a nice bonus. Some of the faster piano tracks are very tough to crack but the slower blues types are not too bad for the less able player (once you've got quick at counting ledger lines!) - Enjoy!

Having had to transcribe Ray's Blues from the soundtrack disc of The Firm, I was delighted to discover that The Firm IS obtainable, after all, as sheet music. I therefore felt badly let down to find the subtle variations and richness of Dave Grusin's extraordinarily beautiful blues reduced to lazy repeats and coda, and the middle, faster section omitted altogether. Inexplicable and inexcusable. Had Ray's Blues been faithfully transcribed, as have the other seven pieces of Grusin's piano set, I should have awarded 5 stars; as it is, only two. Ignore the five pieces in the book by other composers.
