Books | Piano

Publisher: Willis Music
Format: Books | Instrumental Tutor

First Christmas Tunes is a festive and fun repertoire of 26 pieces for beginner pianists that complement the renowned John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course.

The pieces included in the book are the all-time Christmas classics, with compositions that are familiar to everyone such as O Come All Ye Faithful, Deck The Halls and an essential that should be in everyone's repertoire, We Wish You A Merry Christmas. Every piece is enjoyable to play and fun to listen to, making this perfect for the Christmas season when these tunes will get everyone, regardless of age or taste, into the spirit.
The songs in First Christmas Tunes get progressively more challenging, beginning with basic pieces that would be ideal for the beginner who is just learning to play with both hands. As the book goes on, the tunes get more advanced, giving beginners a chance to strive towards the more difficult pieces, but also meaning the book will last at least a year or two as the pupil can return to the book each successive Christmas to consolidate what they have learned over the year. The songs could also be used as sight-reading practice for beginners who have mastered the techniques.
Pupils will love the recognisable tunes that will help them put into practice what they've learned. The festive favourites within this selection such as God Rest You Merry Gentlemen and Jingle Bells are presented in simplified arrangements so that familiar tunes can be learned immediately, boosting confidence and enjoyment.
So for the perfect addition to your Christmas, why not pick up John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course: First Christmas Tunes, and enjoy the collection of merry melodies and holiday harmonies to get you into the spirit of everyone's favourite season.

        Musicroom Reviews

My grandson is learning to play the piano at school and this book was recommended. It was very easy to find it on the MusicRoom website and it was delivered in 2 days - excellent service as usual.

My son immediately opened this one and was so excited to start - it's great to have recognisable tunes at this level of playing. He's on the John Thompson piano course Book 3, and this one is good for a change of pace.

As a piano teacher I use many different Christmas carols books. The John Thompson's Easiest Piano Course is my favourite book for the earliest learners. The first few carols in the book are in the 5-fingers-position making the carols very easy to play, which in turn adds confidence to the student. I have found that whether my students are as young as 5 years or as mature as 55 years plus they all seem to love this first Christmas carol book.

This is my favourite carol book for beginners. Students who have been learning a very short time will be able to play the first five pieces but there are enough harder tunes to last for another couple of years.

Etant prof de piano pour enfant essentiellement, c'est très bien pour les débutants qui désirent jouer un air connu qui leur fait plaisir. C'est très bien arrangé, on reconnaît très bien les mélodies.

Fantastic for beginner - grade 1 Progressive xmas tunes and so far all ten pupils have loved theirs and even the young ones are working their way through them without even stressing about not knowing all the tunes

An excellent book. I used it with beginners of all ages and they loved it! The book starts with tunes with thumbs shaing middle c (sharing the tune between hands), progressing to tune in right with chords in the left. Also the right hand moves to 'thumb on F' hand position near the end. This book will get used again and again!

This is a great book, which really encourages beginner pianists. I have been using it with pupils who have been learning piano for less than one year. It is progressive, so any tunes which are too difficult this year, can be tackled next Christmas. My pupils really love being able to play "real music" and I accompany them with improvised duet parts.

This is a useful first Christmas book starting from pre-Grade 1 level. Useful because it will last at least 2 Christmases for beginner students. The pieces get progressively harder through the book. The only downside is that whilst including most of the favourites, there are also quite a few tunes that are not that well known. At this stage most people want to play a Christmas tune that they know well.

Superb for beginners - grade 3 ish as start off with realy easy to follow one hand at a time and no black notes right up to grade 3 pupils sight reading them end ones - so it suits alot of people. I have children and adults using it and they ALL love it - aged 7-76

Superb - bought 10 this year as ability range in the book is from beginner to around grade 1 so suits alot of people for at least 2 years if not more

I recommend this book each year to my beginners students. It can be used for players who are just learning to play with two hands but then can be used the following christmas as it moves onto more difficult pieces.

A must for all beginning pianists! I wish the lyrics were listed but all in all, this is a "Must Have" when it comes to Christmas.
