Beginner piano I have used since first teaching piano. Book was also used by my mother to teach my brother and I and her pupils. One of the best tutorials for teaching.

It avoids the problems some children have of learning by numbers when there is too much fingering supplied and when everything centres around middle C for too long

Have used this book for about 40 years with a young beginners. Teaches the pupil to read music. There is some fingering in the book but generally pupils read and do not rely on numbers which many other beginner books do. There are many pieces using the new notes before it moves on.
The "same keys" where the same note is written in both clefs. A little confusing for some.

Occasionally beginner students bring other tutor books which I try to use. I always wish that I had insisted on Jibbidy-F. It does need a teacher to explain some things (which is good). It puts hands together early on and this is a much better grounding for future sight-reading. Nice tunes and well-paced progression of skills: particularly good for young students.

This is not a review, but a note on the author. Lela Hoover Ward (1888-1975), was my grandmother. Widowed and left with two young daughters, she supported herself by teaching piano for over 50 years in Guelph, Ontario. In middle age she wrote a number of beginners' books, illustrated by her daughter, Ruth Ward Farrell, of which this was the most successful. It was dedicated to me and my brother, and I am delighted to see that it is still in print.

Jibbidy-F And A-C-E has been around a long time. This book puts hands together very early on and since the piano is a two-handed instrument, the learner's reading skills are being molded properly from the start. It has good tunes and is well laid out with clear printing. The words set to the tunes assist the pupil by giving information about note-names etc. I have tried other tutor books over the last 40 years, but this remains top of my list.

This is a fantastic music book to get you started with the piano. It has been around for many years and is still as good today for my children as it was when I used it many years ago. I am really impressed that this is still available and it beats a lot of the more recenly published learn to play books hands down.

I used this book over 30 years ago as a child and even today the rhymes are still with me - this is a wonderful book and I am just now recommending it to a friend for his 5 year old daughter and hope that she enjoys it as much as I did.

Still my number 1 choice for piano starter books. It puts hands together early on and learners are nearing grade 1 standard by the end. Clear print, words in the songs help to teach theory information. Ideally needs a teacher - but that is good!
