Tony Trischka. A thorough survey of the three finger picking classics of the early 1900s, transitional styles of the 1930s and the Scruggs style of the 1940s and beyond. Includes over 75 bluegrass, old-time fiddle and classic tunes in tablature for 5-string banjo.
This book is for pickers who favour the Scruggs 3-finger style, but covers a range of musical styles. Bluegrass is, surprisingly, kept on the back-burner, and the student is encouraged to develop their repertoire with classical numbers, fiddle tunes and Irish jigs. A true banjo devotee will find this resource very useful and can add a number of styles, techniques and tunes to their arsenal. Improvisation is encouraged, as is an understanding of keys and scales. Best of all, the book has numerous interviews and banjo philosophy from many of history's most influential banjo men... including Earl Scruggs himself.

Nicely laid out with the tab in a handwritten style although it is a little difficult to read if you are new to banjo playing as I am. Lots of tips and playing instruction along with a little bit of history - great for the beginner. Anonymous
