Mike Cornick's Boogie Piano Duets

Books | Piano Duet

Publisher: Universal Edition
Composer: Mike Cornick
Format: Sheet Music | Instrumental Album
Boogie-Woogie is said to have developed as a musical entertainment in the saloon bars of Louisiana and Mississippi. It reached a peak in the late 1930's and early 1940's when the famous exponents (including Meade Lux Lewis, Albert Ammons and Pete Johnson) made their own classic recordings. Those who try to develop their own boogie Piano-playing quickly discover the technical difficulties of maintaining a mobile and rhythmic left-hand figuration whilst also giving thought to what their right hand is playing. In Boogie Duets, this task is thankfully shared, as well as the opportunity to improvise.

This book is great fun. The pieces are varied, and nowhere near as difficult as they look or sound. The only difficult thing about the pieces is trying to sit still - I want to dance along as I play! If you want something livelier than the usual piano duet then you should definitely give this a try.
A minor thing really, but the book doesn't tend to sit well when you turn the pages. The front cover is a bit too bendy. Easily solved though with a peg, or the clips that hold things in place on piano music stands.
