Frank Bridge: Nine Miniature Pastorals

Books | Piano

Publisher: Thames Publishing
Composer: Frank Bridge
Format: Sheet Music | Instrumental Album
The first two sets (each of three pieces) of Miniature Pastorals were written in 1917 and 1921. The pieces which form the third set were also written in 1921 but remained unpublished until 1978. This edition presents all three sets together. Between them, the nine pieces represent a simplification of Bridge's later style, and are sure to be enjoyed by both Pianists and audiences.

Students love the gentle nature of these pieces. Because the Pastorals are not often heard, the listener is not anticipating a particular outcome. Students love to imagine they are premiering the pieces for the first time.

I think the word to describe these pieces would be 'pleasant'! Not an overly complimentary description - but it fits. They're certainly not deep or difficult but... pleasant. Perhaps a little like Bridge's version of Grieg's Lyrical Pieces.

Excellent. The from won't seem to let me out with just saying that one word, so I'll say it again.... Excellent!!!
