I like the questions that come before the sight reading pieces as these help to focus the pupil's attention to the relevant aspects.
Later on,the sight reading pieces appear by themselves,so that pupils must go through the process of analyzing the music for themselves, just as in an exam.
I find that this book is more useful that say "Joining the Dots" for this reason.

Its not quite what I need, its more in test form and not theory, and if you have not had the theory on sight reading you cannot do the tests, so I am finding it hard to work through.

This series of sight reading books is, in my opinion, superb. It takes the student through different keys and rhythms and helps the student to remember what to look out for in preparation for his/her sight reading in the exam. I would highly recommend this series of books. Once completed, my students have found sight-reading in the exams really easy.

These sight reading series are great for students! Each page introduces new area to concentrate on - step by step method, asking questions and suggesting what to look out for! At the end of the book, there are sight reading exercises with no help tools, so you can test what the students have learned and do they now think for themselves. Each Grade is of a higher standard than the book states, so the students are over-prepared for the Grade that they are about to take.
