          Musicroom Reviews

This is an excellent selection of studies from the guitar greats. They are fun to play and would, in my opinion, appeal to Grade 4 players up. The fingerings are useful, and narrative helpful to appreciate the aim of each study. One thing I would say is that some of the initial narrative comments could be a little demoralising, and should be ignored by early students. Comments such as..... 'Although very simple to play.....' and ...'this simple study'......These may all be simple to Mr Noad but to us lesser mortals.......!!

The estudios contained in this work are aimed at grade 4-5 (Royal Conservatory rating). Noad gives an altogether too brief insight into the each study's purpose, and has altered the fingerings and put in many of his own on the pieces which were originally published without. As many of these fingerings go specifically against Sor's own Maxims, it leads one to question why Noad felt their inclusion necessary. He also found it impossible to leave the Carcassi Opus 60 in its original order, for unknown reasons. As I previously stated the material contained is well worth the money, and especially well suited for the intermediate player, with a few more and less advanced pieces.
