I found this an interesting book but some of the pieces are a bit pedestrian. I would not be tempted by a similar volume.

I frequently call on this book for music for before and after church services. They are wonderful tunes, easyish to play, bringing positive comment from congregations.

This is a book which may recommend itself to pianists who wish to transfer to playing the organ, but which struggles to achieve its purpose of providing a broad repertoire of voluntaries suitable for performance on manuals alone. It will be unsurprising to note that the pieces in the collection which work best are those earlier pieces where the pedal was optional or not required. Many of those workd where the manual parts have been adapted to include the original pedal line are rather unsatisfying, though a few warrant the description of being good adaptations. Certainly this is a book which will encourage the development of pedal technique and given that there is no shortage of arguably superio early music intended for manuals alone, it is hard to recommend.
