As a self-taught rock guitarist, I've found my playing stuck in a rut over the last few years. This book helped to give me the confidence to ditch the pick and approach the instrument in a different way. The author's friendly writing style makes the book really approachable and Beginner-Advanced icon at the top of the page gives you a real sense of progress and I now feel ready to take my playing forward and explore other Flamenco, Jazz and Country styles. The CD is really welcome - I find them essential for tutorial books.

This is an excellent starter for anyone wanting to learn finger picking, be you an absolute beginner or someone like me who had thrashed chords for 30 years but wanted to become a 'real' guitar player. The pace of the backing tracks are nice and easy and you progress from very simple exercise/techniques to more complex variations of Spanish, country (boom-ching)etc. The various songs which teach the techniques are generally concise and you should not feel intimidated when starting out with each new technique. Also the teaching technique through these specific songs it is much more motivational than scales and boring exercises. You are actually learning songs to amaze your friends and family, this is what kept me motivated through the whole book.
