J.S.Bach: Sonata G Minor BWV 1020 (Saxophone/Piano)

Books | Alto or Tenor Saxophone, Piano Accompaniment

Catalogue No: UE17774
Format: Sheet Music | Instrumental Album

This is a fine example of how a Baroque sonata can be successfully transcribed for a more modern instrument such as the saxophone. John Harle has done a first-class job and has produced a transcription that lends itself perfectly to the characteristics of the instrument. This publication has been set on many of the top examination syllabuses worldwide and has also proved to be a popular choice on many recital programmes. (James Rae)

Typical Bach. I really enjoyed playing this piece. Great grade 8 piece to choose.

I really enjoyed playing this piece, once its practices up it flows so well off the fingers, and there's plenty of room for interpretation as well. Also getting parts in Eb and Bb is brilliant!

I bought this for my daughter and she is pleased with it. It is a challenging piece for her although she is grade 7 standard.

This is an attractive and enjoyable piece of music which is on the ABRSM alto saxophone syllabus for grade 7 (movement 1) and grade 8 (movements 2 + 3). Separate parts are provided for Eb and Bb saxophones, so you can play this on alto, tenor, or soprano.

This is the second copy of this we have purchased as first was mislaid at a concert. A great quality book with full piano accompaniment.

There's something satisfying about Bach in both a mathematical and emotional way and this is a very satisfying piece. Complete and perfectly formed. I love it - and I play the piano part. Put the sax with it and it really makes sense, even though the sax was not around at the time this was written. (Add some drums/percussion and you've got some jazz too - apologies to Jacques Loussier! Bach just swings naturally. Not for the purists?) Definitely recommended!
