This is one of the most haunting and powerful works in the 20th-century genre.
Though Harvey's style in this piece is simply to exploit the interest of one major chord overlaid by another a half step above or below, the effect is quite powerful.
This piece requires a fairly "wobble-free" choir, in my opinion, since the harmonies are very close and there is a necessity for flawless tuning to pull it off successfully. However the individual parts are not that difficult, excepting the solo trio, particularly the treble line. This work would make a splendid concert piece.

I first heard this piece when I was visiting Stanford University. Dr. Stephen Sano's excellent ensemble performed it, and it is an exquisitely beautiful piece of music.
