Excellent, scholarly edition with a lot of historical and musical information. It seems to be the discerning conductor's edition of choice.
But - the score is not easy to follow - the print is too small and could do to be darker.

Presumably this why there is a large print edition. But while this may be useful for conductor and soloists, it is far too large a volume for choir members to hold.

The music is clearer and easier to read in this version.
It's too floppy. I bought this to replace the old green novello book, hoping the print would be larger, as is most of the new Novello editions. Unfortunately as it now includes German text as well as English in the same number of pages, the print is actually smaller and harder for me to read the text.

A comprehensive vocal score in both English and German with piano accompaniment. The preface includes a history about the composing of the work, information about the translation and a few notes on metronome marks followed by an explanation of editorial procedure. Both text and notation are easy to follow. The size and weight of the score, determined by the length of the work, make it a little difficult to handle during performance. Otherwise an excellent buy and a very popular version.

The New Novello Choral Editions have earned a superb reputation for clarity, greatly aiding sight-reading. Unfortunately this score, Elijah, is not up to scratch. Introducing multiple languages on the page wastes space and reduces clarity. If there is demand for multiple language editions these should be published separately so that customers can selct the appropriate version for their needs. Not amalgamated. Please Novello ... it's not just the extra lines of text ... it's also the alternative rhythms to support them ... all mixed up ... it's a mess. Novello's approach may maximise short term profit .... but at the expense of quality and the long term image of the brand.
