      Content is well laid out.
Also contains lower level content for people like me who have gone straight in at level 5 theory

I have been teaching theory for 40+ years and this is the best book I've seen for taking a theory student quickly and effectively to Grade 5. It explains the principles and structures in a clear and informal style, at the same time as preparing for the test questions themselves.

Brilliant! Contains all you need to know to pass grade 5 theory! I use it for my pupils from around grade 3 onwards. It's easy to understand, fun,and less formal than many other such books. Thoroughly recommended!

Very good book for my daughter, aged 13. She had been struggling with the traditional ABRSM theory books, but finds this one much easier to understand.

An excellent buy; getting a teenage boy to do the theory on top of three instruments in the middle of the rugby season needs some real incentive. This distils the required knowledge into achievable 'chunks'

I highly recommend this book. Using it with my daughter she sailed through her grade 5 theory exam, and without any prior theory training.

This is an excellent book. It is many years since I learnt music theory as a child, but I now accompany choirs and school assemblies on the piano to such an extent that I have been considering taking my Grade 8 exam. However, I can't do that without the Grade 5 theory. This book is set out clearly, and covers the basics first, reminding me of the bits I have forgotten before explaining the more difficult elements. Very pleased!

This is a great book. I studied theory many, many years ago and am now trying to help my children work towards grade 5 . This book has simplified many aspects for us -including for the 9 year old. The author is enthusiastic and encouraging. It is packed with helpful tips- but still very readable. We read through the relevant sections together before tackling that particular section in the test book.It is usually straightforward enough for all the children to understand, with little further explanation from me-thank goodness! I feel encouraged that the four of us will pass grade5 with this book's help. Highly recommended!

When I started learning clarinet just before my 65th birthday I told my teacher that I would not bother with exams. Well, I am about to take my Grade 4 Clarinet and she told me that I will need to have Grade 5 theory before I get to Clarinet 6. I plan to do Clarinte 5 in March next. I have been practicing Theory 4 papers and am now studying to do Theory 5; this book is a great way to get a detailed summary of what is needed to take and pass this exam. This will be my first THEORY exam and it is helping me to understand and approach the paper with more confidence. Hopefully it will prove it's worth when the day comes!!

An invaluable resource for my students that need to swot up quickly on theory in order to sit their Grade 5 examination. It is clear, concise and gets to the point without having to wade through pages and pages of information, unlike the AB Music Theory in Practice books that are far too complicated at times. Highly recommended!

I have been using this book for a number of years with all my Grade 5 students. It is concise and user-friendly. I would recommend this to anyone taking Grade 5, either as a stand alone study aid or as a supplementary alongside lessons from a teacher.

I bought this book for my daughter who is entering the grade 5 theory exam for the third time. She is very impressed with it, she says she now understands things that she was never sure of before. The book is very user friendly, easy to work through even for a complete novice like me because everything is explained in an easy to grasp way. An essential buy for anyone doing grade 5 theory.

I think this is an excellent book. I am using it as a teaching tool for Grade 5 theory with a 10 year old. I would not expect her to read it though, probably more suitable for older children, if working alone.
