- This is the first volume of the series I've have used. As the reader will probably know, 'jazz' in score is a difficult area. Actual transcriptions may beyond the playing-comfort-zone of amateurs, and many 'arrangements' are so basic as to lose any real jazz-resemblance.
These pieces score on both points - they are complex enough to be realistic, and clear enough to read, and many have 'solo break' -type middle sections.
I shall certainly be looking at other volumes in the series.
- I would like all pieces to have the 'solo-break' feature. And it would be nice if (somehow) the solos were then a bit more varied (more editors or contributors involved, maybe?) But these are very much quibbles of perfection.
