The sightreading at the end is out of date.

Great for confidence-building at an early level. Useful warm up exercises and breathing tips for the beginner.
The choice of songs could be more varied, not a great deal to choose from. The range is really pitched for Soprano so any Alto singers would need to have the pieces transposed which is very time-consuming. The sight-reading does not accurately represent the ABRSM exam syllabus, and although it gives some useful practice, the examples are quite busy.

I bought this to obtain the accompaniment to one of the songs - sadly, only some of the listed songs include piano accompaniment scores. This is not detailed in the listing, which meant that this book is useless for the intended purpose.

I think the book is ok but the choice of songs is quite limited. Anonymous

Good value starter book - lots of songs for both boys and girls and enough for them to chose exam pieces from. Not quite so much choice as the ABRSM book but much cheaper. I use them all then add just a few single sheet copies as my tudents get older and need/want more choice. Anonymous

This is a very good book and has aided me alot in my quest to gain my grade one. My sight reading has improved and I feel like a professional singer already! Anonymous
I think this is a useful book for young singers hoping to take Grade I. It has songs from each of the lists, although there could be more choice from List C. There are sections about basic technique for beginners and help on sight-singing. This is a useful book for the student as well as the teacher. Anonymous
An excellent book for beginners. It has lots of worthwhile material Anonymous

I bought this book looking for some nice performance pieces for young singers and it did not disappoint. The actual number of songs is limited, but it is a nice selection. A few of the exercises are fairly common sense, but some nice ideas and the theory is well explained for beginners. Anonymous

Although the books do not give immediate proficiency, they are really useful aids to any teacher or student wishing to have many examples of original sight-singing pieces, breathing exercises and traditional songs. The books are written with panache provide a lot of help on the more tricky sections of the singing exams. Much can also be said for the 'Aural Time' series.

Very clear and helpful book - especially the glossaries at the back of each volume. The pupil is enjoying the variety of pieces and also the warmup exercises. Anonymous

This is a great book, full of complementary theory to go alongside the songs, which are ordered by key. There are also songs from all the Lists for the grade 1 ABRSM singing exam.
However, I was disappointed to find that not all the songs have piano accompaniments. Yes, they are easy and I can make them up myself, but it would have been helpful.
I would have also liked a contents page at the front to make it easier to find the songs inside !
Overall, a great book for beginners. Anonymous
