Every ukulele player should own an 8 string uke. Well, we would say that... if everyone did we could retire to Hawaii on the sales proceeds. The point is that not only is the sound different, and fascinating, but that it gives you a new lease of life in your playing. Pick up a Kala KA-ASAC-T8 all solid acacia tenor uke and you'll struggle to put it down. You'll want to go through every song in your repertoire, try every style you know, strum and pick - just to hear ukulele like you've not played it before. It works well with every style, it really is a lovely thing!
This Kala KA-ASAC-T8 is an extremely well made model, as good as anything Kala produce. The tonewood is all solid acacia throughout, adding depth to the tone as well as looking lovely, with its richly varied tone. The 19 frets are well seated in a smooth rosewood fingerboard, inlaid with vine motif pearl style position markers. There is a multi-layered headstock cap, which looks fabulous with the slotted headstock design - really classy. There is hardwood and delicate rope style binding, the latter repeated on the soundhole rosette, and good quality bright gold tuning machines.
It plays extremely well, the setup is good - very easy to play for an 8 string, and the Aquila strings work well with the solid wood to balance out the warmth with a bit of brightness. Altogether, when played delicately, the tone is sweet and pleasant. Give it some welly and the volume is intense! A smashing uke, all told, is the Kala KA-ASAC-T8.
