This is perhaps the most important unproduced opera of the 1960s. All of Lutyens' hallmarks are present. Most notably subtle neo-bel canto vocal lines. The drama is gripping.
The score is not an easy one, especially rhythmically, but I am sure that it would hold an audience's attention. Which will be the brave opera company to perform it first ?
