- I bought the Cello suites for Electric Bass, because they rate as some of the best classical unaccompanied works for any instrument, ever! Not surprisingly they have been arranged for all types of different instruments from strings, to woodwind and brass. I should explain that I'm a trained classical musician who decided to take up the bass a short while ago to learn something completely different. I couldn't wait to have a crack at these particular masterpieces, and this arrangement is clearly written in Bass Clef and Tab. I personally would not want to try to pick my way through these complex works, by trying to read the tab. I think you have to be able to read music and have some basic knowledge of musical ornamentation, if not also a grasp of the style of Bach. That's just my own feeling here but I wouldn't want that to put anyone off. Some of the Suites require the lowest string to be tuned down, but I have found it easier to have either a 5 or 6 stringed instrument, and then you can comfortably play all the register required. Altogether this edition is well laid out and clear and faithful to the original. Thankfully it isn't cluttered up with loads of editorial markings, and provides excellent exercise for anyone playing either Acoustic or Electric Bass, or even Double Bass for that matter, because the string pitches are the same. Extremely good value for money for what are in effect some of the greatest masterpieces ever written. I never tire of them.
- nothing to speak of.
