      Musicroom Reviews

I got this for my 13 year old daughter who is doing small concerts in local nursing homes and she wanted to learn more songs the residents could sing along to. This definately fits the bill. It contains all the well known war time songs as well as a large selection from the Beatles as well as many others that you catch yourself singing as you read the title! The book is presented in an interesting way with photographs and information on the music of that decade in each section. We are delighted with this purchase.

I got this book for an elderly lady friend, more for the words than for the music. She loves it, as she knows most of the songs in it, and especially loves the ones from the 30s and 40s. She also enjoyed all the photographs which made it more interesting than the average songbook.

The content of the book is great, a memorable collections of songs. All the lyrics are complete with clear scores. Great pictures. It would be nice if the book was bound in a way that it stayed open without having to hold it.

Bought as an 18th birthday present for a pupil, who immediately understood the point! She quite rightly saw that this would teach her about the history and development of the popular song in the 20th C, and, thanks to the photos and the historical information, also put this repertoire into its cultural context.
