This is a great book for practising finger exercises in every possible key! It does have some exercises for tone control at the beginning, but the majority of the book is dedicated to scalic and arpeggiated exercises in semiquavers. If you want something that covers a wider range of flute technique then go for the practice books 1-6 (you can get 1-5 in a bumper edition).

Excellent book- I'm returning to the flute after some 10 years of hardly playing at all, and wanted something to bring me back up to Grade 8+ standard. The exercises are well chosen / written, arranged in sections according to register and skills targeted, and are not at all dull, as can be the case with so many study books - many are excerpts from "real" musical works, which serve to target a particular skill. Highly recommended.
