Morris Lang studied with Billy Gladstone who unfortunately wrote no drum books, yet Gladstone had a formidable technique of which Buddy Rich said he was Number 1. Wow, high praise indeed.
Lang misses some technique issues which really need detailed explantions, which are almost given to us from the Billy Gladstone book by Chet Falzerano, such as that Gladstone studied the escapment of piano action to help him understand rebound!! This dvd feels like a missed opportunity. Lang was a top flight percussionist in his day. He teaching to 2 students is a bit dry and sluggish, the dvd filming & direction is a bit disappointing.
Nevertheless, Lang's dvd is the closest we're ever going to get to knowing something of the Gladstone technique.
Lang promotes his copies of the infamous Gladstone drum, only 50 or so made and highly collectable. Check out youtube for a clip of Louise Bellson playing his.

Nevertheless, by combining the readily available instruction of Jim Chapin, (dvd)Gladstone (Lang's dvd) and Sandford Moeller (book) techniques, you'll have great drum hands!
