Little Requiem For Father Malachy, a work for SATB choir and orchestra, was commissioned by the Southern Cathedrals Festival with funds provided by the Arts Council of Great Britain. It was first performed in Winchester Cathedral in July 1972 by the Southern Cathedrals Choir and the Bournemouth Sinfonietta conducted by Martin Neary. Vocal score with organ reduction of the orchestral score.
I remember singing in the original performance in Winchester Cathedral where I was a chorister. I was only 10, so the music seemed a bit modern then, but we were all hugely impressed by John Tavener - Cool, Tanned, with a mane of long hair, white suit, and matching white Rolls Royce Convertible!
