I purchased this instructional set for my 13 year-old daughter yesterday in Noordvijk, The Netherlands. Within minutes she was captivated by the upbeat repertoire and the arrangements. Although quite highly accomplished (isn’t everyone’s child?), my daughter found the pieces challenging but interesting. Within thirty minutes she was playing our favorite piece, Zoot Suit Riot, with a very high degree of accuracy in both intonation and articulation. So today, day two, she will back-up the tracks to her portable MP3 player so that she can better control the accompaniment. The pieces have been arranged with the developing player in mind, providing a nice balance between challenge and early success. I think it is safe to say that my daughter will be returning to this collection long after she has mastered them all simply for the fun of playing such uplifting pieces. We will certainly explore the remaining titles in the Guest Spot series. As a professional educators my wife and I realize the value of motivation in reinforcing private study. As teachers in international schools we also appreciate the need for accommodating different learning styles in students. This product goes a long way in addressing both. Thanks for a great product!

The tracks in this book are excellent almost without exception. I have a slight issue with the backing track on the CD in that the version without the sax playing is quite quiet at times and you need to turn up the volume quite high. This is not true of the tracks with the sax playing. That is the only reason I don't give the book 5 stars.
