The first section can be taught by rote then the student become accustom to recognising notes below ledger line in the bass clef. I have found this a good book for adult and teenage beginners as it help with coordination and sounds good too.

This book gives very good exercises for approaching playing blues... if you then apply them in different keys it works really well.
