Angele Dei (Angel of God) is a prayer to the guardian angel, suitable for general liturgical use, in particular as an introit, anthem or blessing at the Feast of the Holy Archangels or for concert performance.‘This piece was composed as a parting gift for my great friend and colleague Harriet Gedge. Recorded by the BBC Singers, conducted by Bob Chilcott on 19 November 2010 at St Paul’s Church, Knightsbridge, London, it was subsequently sung at Harrriet’s funeral in Brecon Cathedral on 16 December 2010.’

qui custos es mei,
me, tibi commissum pietate superna,
custodi, rege et guberna.
Amen. Angel of God,
my guardian dear,
to whom God's love commits me here,
ever this day,
be at my side to light and love,
to rule and guide.
The text is attributed to Reginald of Canterbury c.1100.
