Martin Ellerby: Birthday Honours: Concert Band

Birthday Honours was premiered in 2007 to celebrate the 70th birthday of British composer Guy Woolfenden. It makes a perfect piece to mark any anniversary or as a surprise on someone’s actual birthday. The trio section of this march quotes the familiar tune, Happy Birthday, before melody, counter-melody and the initial theme all combine to create an extravagant musical celebration. The opening introduction forms a swift and conclusive coda at which point it is time to blow out the candles and serve up the cake!
