The original pieces in blues style for clarinet and piano are technically undemanding but must be played in the correct style in order to achieve a convincing result. The accompaniments will aid interpretation. The first two pieces are entirely in the low register and therefore can be played by clarinettists of very modest ability. To facilitate rehearsal, the clarinet part has been printed at concert pitch above the accompaniment. Simple chord symbols have been added to the middle section of each piece to allow freedom for improvisation.
