James Macmillan’s creative output is varied and includes opera, sacred music, concertos and other styles and genres that includes numerous choral compositions. The much performed and broadcasted composer has held many prestigious appointments including composer and conductor with the BBC Philharmonic between 2000 and 2009. He has global success conducting both standard repertoire and his own pieces. With a strong social conscience and influenced by his own Scottish heritage, music from around the world, and the Catholic faith, he first came to international prominence with the performance of The Confession of Isobel Gowdie at the BBC Proms in 1990.
