Aria by Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) is a lyrical piece written in 1936 for advanced Alto Saxophone players. Technically and musically challenging, being able to master vibrato and control your instrument well will be greatly beneficial to effective playing of this piece.

Dedicated to the famous French Saxophonist Marcel Mule, Aria required from the player a good mastery of breathing as there are few rests and this also suggests that the intonation should be applied carefully as well.
A relaxed piece that's really popular among players, this piece can remind of the style of J. S. Bach and is thoroughly enjoyable.

Eugène Bozza won different prizes at the Conservatoire de Paris such as the First Prizes for the Violin, conducting and composition, as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He also composed several operas, chamber works and ballets among others.

Gabriel Grovlez (1879-1944) studied under Gabriel Fauré at the Paris Conservatoire. His compositions proved to be extremely versatile, from Operas and Ballets to solo works. Grovlez's Sarabande et Allegro is a sublime addition to the Alto Saxophone repertoire.

Many of the composer's works show neo-classical features, which is also the case in Sarabande et Allegro, where the texture is predominantly melody-dominated homophony, perfect cadences are frequently heard, and modulations to related keys occur. Grovlez's F minor Sarabande is in a steady, triple meter, superbly contrasted by the fast Allegro, composed in the relative major. All these features make for a thoroughly enjoyable and delightful performance!

Published in 1934 and written by the French flautist and composer Marcel Moyse (1889-1984), De la Sonorité proposes a method to acquire a beautiful sonority on the Flute. Created for the use of advanced flautists, the exercises should give a means to the players to transform their sounds and obtain a different and better tone.

De la Sonorité is divided into five parts:
1. Timbre and homogeneity of tone in the 3 registers
2. Suppleness of tone (especially in the low register)
3. Attacking and slurring notes
4. Fullness of tone
5. Management of tone in interpretation

German baroque composer, Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) was a self-taught multi-instrumentalist, becoming a composer against his family's wishes. However, his musical career saw him hold important positions and, to this day, he remains a major composer. His sublime Sonata in C minor for Oboe is superbly arranged for Alto Saxophone by contemporary French saxophonist, Jean-Marie Londeix.

Telemann composed his Sonata in C minor for Oboe whilst in service to the German Royal family. During this time, he composed a wealth of instrumental music, including Sonatas and Concertos. Londeix's arrangement for Saxophone of Telemann's Sonata includes adaptions for the instrument, such as dynamics, phrase marks, performance and tempo directions, articulation and breath marks, making the baroque genre accessible to the Saxophone, a relatively modern instrument.
