We know Henri Duparc for only a small number of art songs he composed between 1868 and 1884, but his musical legacy is a rare one. Settings of works by Baudelaire, Leconte de Lisle, are masterworks of sensuous beauty, rich in emotion, artfully conveying the poetic atmosphere of their texts. Included in this one volume are all Sixteen songs and one duet, reprinted from authoritative French editions.

Rating Review
Customer Rating upon my having heard the first of fourteen songs by h duparc, i was mesmorised. then i was a fledgling student of voice and thought what beautiful arrangements, musical, thoughful, haunting, reverently austere and intriguing arrangements. after having worked on and sung a handful of them on recitals and in workshops, i can honestly admit to their intricate complexities yet satisfying and beautiful mélodies.
whether you're a beginner, intermediate or accomplished vocalist, these songs will not only enhance your ability to sing better, musically and phonetically in french (if one is not a speaker of the language), they will enrich your soul. something about the haunting and dissonance in both 'extase' and 'soupir' makes one feel as though you're being taken into a magical forest in which once wagner might have been sited, composing some of his operatic ring cycles. although sometimes eerily too haunting, these few songs will resonate within you and will ultimately make you a better performer. i recommend them highly for any vocalist with a modicum of good, solid grounding in vocal technic, or even as a supplement to the novice. as they are arranged for high, medium and low voice, i recommend them especially to students who are trying to get into a vocal program. this repetoire is vital for learning the variances and interpreting the late french romantic early 20th centuray mélodies.

Customer Rating So glad to have these wonderful songs finally in my possession. Good value volume for french music which traditionally has been very expensive.
