Description

Six original compositions for solo piano, by Michael Nyman, from the award winning film by Jane Campion.

English composer Michael Nyman has developed into one of the most popular, if not important, composers of film music, and his film score for the 1992 film the Piano is without doubt the most famous and familiar of his compositions. The tone of Campion’s film is perfectly emphasised by Nyman’s style and though much here is beautiful and rich, it is a haunting and foreboding sound picture that reflects the greys of sea, sky and spirit.

Customer Rating I love the last piece, 'The Heart Asks Pleasure First'. It's the best modern piece I have ever played!

Customer Rating This book is quite an expensive product, being only 32pp long. However the last piece (The heart asks pleasure first) is really the piece to play. The pieces require a certain amount of piano skill. So, only buy this book if you are about Grade 6. It seems a shame that the publishers could not release The heart asks pleasure first singularly, but a good buy.

Customer Rating This collection of wonderful tunes from THE PIANO are out-standing. These have got to be the best pieces ever written for Film Music, the order of key is one of the most key features that i find when playing the pieces. Michael Nyman is a FANTASTIC composer! The Heart Asks Pleasure is the most heart pounding pieces i have ever heared-especially with lots of dinamics-soft Crescendos and moving rallantandos are the way to play these tearful Tunes-BUY IT!

Customer Rating A wonderful collection of songs. I just can't get tired of playing "The heart asks pleasure first". It requires some piano skill but it's really worth the while.

Customer Rating It was awesome!

Customer Rating It has taken me some time to learn the music from the film 'The Piano'. However it has definitely been worth it! 'The Heart asks Pleasure First' was the first piece of classical music that I ever liked, and it is still high on my list! It is a good idea to buy the CD if you intend to play the piece. This acts as an invaluable guide!

Customer Rating Absolutely fantastic!

Customer Rating The final tune is my favourite. I've had to work at it but that's only increased my enjoyment. The left hand and right hand change directions in different parts of the piece so in places it's a bit like trying to rub your tummy with one hand and pat your head with the other (try it!). Really glad I bought this one.

Customer Rating "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" is without doubt the most beautiful piece I have ever played. Accenting the melody is both challenging and difficult but worth it and makes for some beautiful playing. Also, if you like "The Heart Asks Pleasure First" you'll probably enjoy the rest of the music in the book too. Highly recommended.

Customer Rating A lovely collection of pieces. The last piece in the book is my favourite, though. It's also a super piece to get my left hand back up to speed, as I hadn't played for some years.

Customer Rating A beautiful score

Customer Rating I have thoroughly enjoyed learning this music. The pieces in the book (especially 'The Piano / The Heart Asks Pleasure First' and 'Big My Secret') are among the most beautiful pieces I have ever played and convey every feeling that words can't describe as well. However I do believe that it’s necessary to be at least grade six standard to play these pieces perfectly, although it's possible to simplify them. The effort is worth it in the end as the pieces are beautiful.

Customer Rating Wow! The last piece in the book is by far and away the best.
Can be simplified to about grade 4 standard by only playing the upsticks with the right hand. Anyone at this standard and above MUST buy this book.

Customer Rating I got this music because I was shopping for other music and my Mum pointed this out and asked me to learn it. I had never heard of it but when I first heard it it sounded great. A great buy for pianists around Grade 6 because of its complex melody.

Customer Rating Big My Secret is recognisably beautiful even played by a novice player like myself....timeless music for all practising pianinsts wanting a motivator to practice...this book is a great motivator...those who play well..lucky you - instantly beautiful music arising
Jewell

Customer Rating A beautiful collection of music, thoroughly recommended for pianists as it was written for the instrument and is not just a mediocre arrangement. Sounds impressive despite not being overly technically challenging and gives plenty of scope for emotion.

Customer Rating The music book does not contain all of the Piano Solo pieces but I believe the scores are the full versions which I find is rare. Theses are well written pieces of work. Well Done Michael!!!!

Customer Rating I have been looking for this book for a while and was delighted to find it reasonably priced.

Customer Rating Although it doesn't contain all the pieces from the film, those which are included sound fantastic. Though 'Big My Secret' and 'The Heart Asks For Pleasure First' tend to shine brightest, the others are also worth investing time in.
