Ferdinand 'Jelly Roll' Morton (1890-1941) was the first great jazz artist - a composer, pianist and bandleader. His wide-ranging tastes and diverse influences shaped all his compositions. This is a complete edition of 'Jelly Roll' Morton's work, containing every piece he ever published or recorded as a piano solo. Compiled by James Dapogny, this vast book also contains a biography, a chronological list of compositions, illustrations and notes on each piece.

London GB Plays organ, harpsichord, piano.
Well researched and edited.
So thick a volume, it's hard to keep it open on the music desk.

Musicroom Reviews

Rating Review
Customer Rating This is an excellent monograph on one of the pioneers of blues piano, combining detailed biographical information and a detailed analysis of 40 works with full-length playable transcriptions of very satisfactory detail and fullness of sound, none of the usual simplified samplers. A delightful book for the advanced player. One snag though - at over 400 pages the volume is difficult to keep in place on an upright piano.
