Musicroom Reviews

Rating Review
Customer Rating I have searched and searched for an adult beginners' tutor book which gives very basic progressive instruction, with no cartoon characters or condescending comments, and yet which adult pupils can feel comfortable with. The Classic Piano Course does exactly that. The little boxes of "Fascinating Snippets" are interesting but not intrusive, the pieces are well chosen. Adult beginners are often very self-critical and always ask searching questions, the answers to which are carefully and easily explained in this book. It's a must for new adult learners or late re-starters. Many thanks.

Customer Rating This book is excellent for my adult beginners. I have searched through many other piano books to find a suitable series for adults, but have generally only come across books designed for young children, which come over as patronising to adult beginners. This book moves at a very brisk pace, so it's important to ensure that the pupil has grasped every new development before moving onto the next piece, but all in all I am very impressed with this book.

Customer Rating There is a growing body of middle-aged people keen to take up practical music and there are not so many tutor books around for adult beginners. This is about the best I have come across whilst providing a reasonable framework, is not in any way either patronising to the student nor obviously aimed at the traditional child pupil. The simple arrangements of tunes are very good.

Customer Rating This is a great book for adult beginners, starting from a basic standard but playing proper music straight away. I also find it useful for repertoire for brighter young learners.

Customer Rating This book is brilliant for a learner who is secondary school age upwards. I found that teaching with some colourful books were a bit childish but this book is great. It gets straight into playing and you learn proper famous tunes rather than made up tunes.
A brilliant book!

Customer Rating Excellent for adult learners who want to learn something new or have just forgotten how to play. It's great for people who just want to get on with it, if you know what I mean.

Customer Rating This was bought for my father to learn to play with, he has only hd one lesson so not sure how great the book really is yet, but on flicking through (as a grade 7 pianist) it looks good.

Customer Rating I bought this book on the strength of the earlier recommendations I read. The student is a retired friend who has decided to teach herself to play the piano.

When she received the book, she contacted me to express her pleasure, saying it was 'just the right sort of book' she needed.

Customer Rating Great little book. Arrived on time in perfect condition. Well laid out and easy to follow.

Customer Rating Generally a good book with clear development of skills.

Have found two errors though - a waltz near the end which is used to introduce 1st and 2nd time bars shouldn't have these and because it does, there is an extra beat. Have had to re-write it so it makes sense for students.

Also, staccato touch is left until the end of the book and is introduced after slurs. Slurs need a type of staccato touch on the last note anyway so it should really be introduced before them.

Otherwise a good book and a nice varied set of music to learn with.

Customer Rating I bought this for a 17-year old, already an able clarinetist but wanting to learn piano and struggling with coordination and reading two staves at the same time. Other 'starter' books were far too young for him but this one really hit the right note! Thoughtfully written and well paced, moving through the various stages quickly enough to maintain interest but not too quickly that points are misunderstood. An excellent book!

Customer Rating I have been using this tutor and find it very good.
The music in it is for adults to play.
The book has large print which is far better fo short sighted people.I also have another well known tutor but feel that this is far better.also the next book has lots to play for beginners.

Customer Rating As a fourty-something woman who has always had a desire to play the piano but had placed herself as a no-hoper, this book has given me the confidence and know-how to get playing.

Easy to understand with clear terms / definitions and good exercises to follow. This should be a must for all wannabe piano players who just need to get started.

Customer Rating Well set out with plenty of interest. It is clear and has a good selection of pieces that are well chosen to keep the adult learner interested. I like the little snippets of information given now and then. I would recommend this book to any adult beginner.

Customer Rating Good enough, but better books for adults such as the Alan Bullard pianoworks, which encourage following patterns rather than learning notes. Better success with Bullard books as these can be a bit slow.

Customer Rating I couldn't have asked for a better book. At 36, I stopped having piano lessons 20 years ago, having reached Grade 3, but at the same time discovering boys, clubs and mischief! So out went the lessons and I hadn't touched a keyboard since. I recently felt that I wanted to revisit my music lessons and learn to play as a way to relax in a productive way. This book is ideal - it takes you through the basics, building them in a thorough but concise fashion, with absolutely NO flashbacks to childhood piano lessons! Easy to follow and with quick results, I've felt motivated to practise and achieved exactly what I wanted - a fun and fuss-free reintroduction to the piano.

Customer Rating Perfect for the older new learner.

Customer Rating A really good starter book for older children (especially those who already can read music, perhaps by playing another instrument) and adults. I found the written information really clear, concise and useful and am enjoying working my way through the book. I would thoroughly recommend this book for anyone starting to learn the piano.

Customer Rating Excellent, thank you.

Customer Rating I absolutely love this book. I think it is the best book there is for adults and teenagers. Not only is the repertoire varied and well chosen but also there are explanations about composers and music theory that make this book more than a piano book. It also teaches the beginner about general musical knowledge. Strongly recommend it.

Customer Rating Very good book to help me re-learn everything I have forgotton from years ago when I first learnt the piano and have now decided to take it up again. Good that it is for adults instead of the usual childrens ones.

Customer Rating I have been absolutely delighted with this album. It is 20 years since I last touched a piano, but having missed making music for myself, I decided to try again. This is perfect for a 'returner'. I never did get beyond grade 5 level but I always live in hope.

Customer Rating I have started using this with an adult pupil who has never played before and we've only done a couple of lessons, but it seems to be an appropriate and useful book. I would certainly use it again.

Customer Rating A great introduction for older/adult students!

Customer Rating Excellent book for teenage and adult beginners - I like the variety of pieces and snippets about composers etc. However, I think staccato could be introduced earlier, and the parts for the teacher could be in larger type.
