Description

The Saxophone is arguably the most iconic of all instruments, but with its graceful form and soulful tone it's easy to forget that it's still a machine. It's a complicated machine, too, and even a slight fault in the mechanism can affect the way it feels and plays.

This innovative manual explains clearly and simply how the mechanism functions and what can be done to maintain it, as well as to improve its performance with professional set-up techniques, with few or no specialist tools.

This manual is essential reading for everyone who plays the saxophone.

Key content

  • The action described - how it works and what can go wrong.
  • Lubrication and preventing wear.
  • Setting up the action - improving the feel and tweaking for performance.
  • Trouble-shooting common problems - tricks, tips and trade secrets.
  • Major problems - when to call on a repairer.

Rating Review
Customer Rating I found this book extremely good with a wealth of comprehensive information difficult to find elsewhere, bring on the clarinet volume !!

Customer Rating Seems an excellent guide to maintaining a saxophone, with loads of useful tips. I have only skimmed through it so far as I bought it as a Xmas present, intending to borrow it myself later!
A cautionary note - the cover shows a Bauhaus sax. These are not bad by Chinese standards, but buy with care.
Book arrived promptly, excellently packed. I would recommend every sax player to buy one. You will soon recoup the cost by saving unnecessary trips to the repair shop!

Customer Rating This is a correction to my earlier review - Stephen Howard emailed me and asked me to point out that the Bauhaus shown is one of the upmarket Taiwanese models, NOT made in China!

Customer Rating At Last! A 'proper' manual that clearly explains how to do those jobs that need to be done to keep the sax in tip-top condition. Each component is clearly explained as to its function and 'how it goes together' .... A definite must-have!

Customer Rating A comprehensive guide to saxophone maintenance which should find a place on every serious saxophonist's bookshelf. As well as describing routine maintenace and small repairs, it also gives detailed guidance on more complex repairs. This will allow an assessment to be made as to whether a repair is within an individual's abilities or whether it is time to seek the help of a professional repairer.
