The acoustic tone of the Yamaha NCX1200R is excellent. The amplified tone is good and can be fine tuned to balance well, bass to treble, and all frequencies in-between.
The "semi-hard" case, is not really worthy of this quality of instrument.

Staff Reviews

Staff Rating I have been fortunate enough to have played three of these beautiful instruments; one in isolation with an AER amp and two back-to-back without an amp. I first played the one with the amp and was immediately struck by its supremely easy playability. This guitar was fitted with D'addario EJ46 hard tension strings, which I felt suited it perfectly. I then plugged it in, and for the sceptics out there (of whom I was one), may I encourage you to believe the hype. It was impossible to detect that the Guitar hadn't been mic'd up by an experienced sound engineer. Additionally, both its responsiveness and dynamic range were improved. I also had the opportunity to compare two other NCX1200R's back-to-back. This allowed me to gauge the consistency within the confines of this model and I can honestly say that I couldn't have chosen between any of them. In the absence of an amp, I was better able to assess the acoustic tone of the instruments, and although (amazingly) they sound better plugged in, they still did sound very good unplugged. They had really sweet, balanced tone which, although not overly loud, I could feel would improve with time and playing.
