Contemporary Sax styles by The Super Groovers, featuring Frank Villafranca on Saxophone and Andrew D. Gordon on Keyboards and Guitar.

The smooth jazz grooves in this book feature a variety of contemporary rhythm section styles including Jazz, R&B, Rock, Gospel, Hip-Hop, and Latin.

On each of the twenty tracks, the groove is separated into three melodic ideas. Each melodic idea (example or riff) is played first, by the Saxophone with the groove, followed by just the rhythm section groove, without Sax. The first example is usually the easiest, the second slightly harder and the third the most difficult.

"Andrew D. Gordon and A.D.G. Productions have done a fine job of compiling this information in an attractive and accessible package. Many a smooth jazz aficionado will appreciate this collection in print and on CD. - Skip Spratt, SaxShed.com

Rating Review
Customer Rating This one certainly gets your fingers moving and in ways I didnt think mine would. Great fun to play, and it was easy to find a level that suited me without feeling like I would never be able to play it. Room for me to learn and still be using this book for a while to come so money well spent.

Customer Rating A fun book to play although more suited to intermediate standard players. Each groove is divided into three parts with the opportunity to listen to each short section before trying it yourself with just the backing. Along with the scale guide, this makes it easier to get to grips with each of the groove styles. However, each section is quite short and doesn't allow for an extended try at improvising over the groove - hence the 3* rating. To overcome this, it is possible to buy extended backing tracks for only a few dollars and download them over the Internet. This is most worthwhile and makes the playing experience much more enjoyable.
