Play Bach is a collection of pieces by J.S. Bach as interpreted by Jacques Loussier and his trio, arranged for Piano, Double Bass and Percussion. Including six songs, Play Bach features the best of these iconic arrangements.

A French composer and pianist, Jacques Loussier is perhaps best known for his trio's jazz renditions of Bach's works. Their recording of 'Air On The G String' became well-known through its use in a long-running British advertisement.

Musicroom Reviews

Rating Review
Customer Rating Not every piano player has access to a drummer and double bassist, but its still worth getting this classic jazz/Bach crossover, as it is a very literal translation from the original recordings. On most pieces you can generally ignore the drums and occassionally fill in the bass bits. However, it is on the improvisations that it is more difficult to maintain the piano jazz chords with a melody AND interest line in the bass.

Customer Rating In response to the first comment, I think the book is designed for Piano, Bass and Drums - not solo piano!!! I have an excellent pianist and bassist (I am the drummer) and this music is fantastic. Very easy to put together and sounds very like the originals!

Customer Rating Although the book gives good ideas on the basis of the pieces, it seldom matches up to whatever is played on the record. I have Six different recordings of the "Play Bach" album and not a single one matches to the improvised passages written in the book, though they are quite similar within themselves. It begs the question what recording the transcriber was listening to?

As a pianist - very disappointed
