Sonata In A is a glorious seventeenth century composition attributed to Giovannino. Along with Sonata in F (YE0009), this simple, tuneful and popular sonata was originally written for the little known stringed instrument, the Violone. Used today to perform Renaissance and Baroque music, it has six strings, is fretted and is the largest member of the Viol family.
Expertly edited by Rodney Slatford, this piece is arranged for Violone, Gamba, Cello or Double bass and is a welcome addition to the bass clef string repertoire. The keyboard realisation for Harpsichord is by Colin Tilney.
Part of AMEB (Australian Syllabus) and ABRSM Double Bass examinations.
