A song sequence for String Quartet and Voice. Written by Elvis Costello in response to an article detailing the discovery that a Veronese academic had been replying to letters addressed to 'Juliet Capulet'. The delicate and personal nature of the content of such correspondence has inspired a wonderful and poignant set of songs arranged specifically for, and performed by, The Brodsky Quartet. This is a deceptively simple and work, baring all the qualities of Costello's intelligent sense of melody.

Musicroom Reviews

Rating Review
Customer Rating The Juliet Letters is a song cycle based on the many different forms of letter we all send and receive - advertising, dear John, solicitor's, letters home from a war, etc. The style is highly individual having been written as a collaboration between Elvis Costello and the Brodsky Quartet - a recipe for 'crossover' of the highest artistic content. This album was released at a particularly turbulent time in my life and has resonances in many of its songs, and any audience you play it for will be certain to find their own. I urge you to listen to, and, if you can, play this music.
