Musicroom Reviews

Rating Review
Customer Rating This book is an excellent "complete" theory workbook for children aged 4-7 years. The 48-page A4 book is made from good quality paper and is beautifully and clearly illustrated with appropriate colour pictures. Also included are 100+ stickers for use in the numerous fun exercises.

First introduced are the Semibreve, Minim, Dotted Minim and Crotchet, which are then reinforced over the next 16 pages. The treble notes Middle C, D, E, F and G are next, followed by the ‘Keyboard’, Time signatures (2/4 3/4 4/4), bar-lines, and finally the bass notes Middle C, B, A and G. At the end of the book is a test for the pupil, a page of manuscript, and a 'Pupil Lesson Record'. Finally, a colourful Certificate certifying completion and promotion to Level 2 is included.

Highly recommended!

Customer Rating A fun start to learning theory. With stickers to answer the questions and a certificate at the end to say you've completed the book. My students look forward to doing theory now.

Customer Rating This book is excellent for very young beginners! The stickers and the colouring in make it fun but they are learning at the same time. The book can be finished quickly so there is an instant sense of achievement. I would recommend this book for ages 6-9.

Customer Rating I use this book a lot for very young pupils, it is well paced for a 4 - 6 year old, with stickers and bright pages making it attractive to youngsters.

Customer Rating Ideal as a gentle introduction to Theory. Am using with pupils of 8-10 years and they are enthusiatic about doing theory, which has to be good!

Customer Rating I agree with the above reviews, placing the age range in the 4 to 7, as it says on the book, and not above: older beginners will get more out of the "my first theory book" etc..
My main thumbs up is because the material is reviewed many times so the children get to be really familiar with the notes in different exercises. Too many books present a new fact, do one or two exercises, then move on. This one varies the tasks: not just stickers but also writing in and colouring.
One gripe is that it is KEYBOARD based (this is not sepcified in the blurb)so not all exercises are good for my violinist/harpist/guitarist family.

Customer Rating I have just ordered this book for the first time for a young pupil. She was so excited to see the stickers! I think it will be a great introduction to theory for her(as long as she doesn't expect it always to be so much fun!)

Customer Rating The variety of activities make this a book that younger pupils love. They really learn through play, and are amazed at how quickly they learn. A winner with my pupils.

Customer Rating Purchased for teaching my 6 year old. It has basic grounding, a great way of learning the notes, and values, and has activities. Well worth the money. Great book,. Highly recommended.

Customer Rating This is a fantastic book for younger children, and is easy enough for an intermediate musician like myself to teach to my 5 and 7 year old children. They are having loads of fun with the stickers. It is slightly too easy for the 7 year old, but still a good chance for us to review what he already knows.

Customer Rating Ideal for young children 6 upwards. Lots of fun activity whilst gradually familiarising the child with basic theory. Idea book to accompany Ten Little Fingers by Pauline Hall.

Customer Rating Fab book! My 5 yr old absolutely loves it and it is normally a chore getting him to do anything that he sees as 'work'! Fantastic.

Customer Rating Young students love these and parents are surprised to see that there is something so fun for their child.

Customer Rating My 6 yr old loved this and finished it in 2 weeks! A bit more bass clef would be nice (instead of some of the counting which went on a bit!), but maybe that comes in the next book? Great for introducing theory as something fun & not intimidating though.

Customer Rating Great for very small musicians - age 5/6.
We love stickers!
