Musicroom Reviews

Rating Review
Customer Rating First decided to buy this book as I wanted the sheet music for "Phantasietanz" which I heard on my Grade 5 CD as an extra piece under the B section. I loved the sound of this piece and so I really wanted the music for it, so when I saw that it was in this book I decided to buy the whole book and found it was a great decision as I love all the pieces in the book. A definite buy in my opinion.

Customer Rating I got this book for the grade 4 piece "Wiegenliedchen" which, after hearing the audio of it, I had to have. This book is full of beautiful pieces and I am very glad to have it in my collection.

Customer Rating Two of my favourite mini-etudes are contained in this set. Phantasietanz is marked sehr rasch (very fast) and Elf is so schnell als moglich (as fast as possible) but both are very satisfying to practise slowly, as they feel so fluid under the hands. They're excellent pieces for building confidence, as one gradually increases the tempo - and the 'one or two metronome marks at a time' method is always very rewarding! Elf is one page of magic - the contrary motion arpeggiated figures are perfect for developing a supple wrist, and it's such fun to experiment with ways to make the elf sound darting and puck-like. Phantasietanz is a glorious piece that gives pupils a chance to experience a feeling of virtuosity, and it's amazing that the hands never play simultaneously. The beautiful Wiegenliedschen is also in the set - it looks so easy on the page but the subtlety required to project the poignantly nuanced melody is, in its way, even more challenging than bringing off the two etudes. All of the pieces present wonderful opportunities to introduce Schumann's beloved characters, Florestan and Eusebius.

Customer Rating I love the music in this collection and it is just within my capacity to play (intermediate) but is a bit of a challenge (which I like!)
