Rating Review
Customer Rating I am currently using this book with many of my young students and have found it ideal. Most of them have completed the early tutors, e.g. Bastien or Alfred's series, and parents are keen for them to begin taking their graded exams. However, I have found for many young players, around 7 - 9 year olds, that it's too tricky going into the Grade 1 syllabus straightaway; many of them still have to get used to moving around the keys in different hand positions. The Initial Test gives them a sense of progression and motivation, the pieces are fun and varied and the students get used to the idea of reading smaller print. The Trinity Guildhall selection of pieces and exercises are so much more useful and interesting than the Associated Board Prep Test and I highly recommend it!

Customer Rating Trinity Guildhall have definitely succeeded in providing a selection of pieces which will introduce keen, young pianists to the examination system. The pieces are tuneful and 'catchy' and the exercises are great fun! I highly recommend this book.

Customer Rating I love the Trinity exams: the pieces are so much more appealing than a lot of the Associated Board ones, and the children enjoy playing them. This exam is similar in standard to the Prep exam. However, this is real: you are marked as with the more difficult exams later on. It is a real challenge, but my pupils enjoy it.

Customer Rating Superb selection of pieces for pre grade one, would use these pieces even if candidates are not sitting exams.

Customer Rating Great set of pieces...pupils much prefer these to the AB Prep Test (which hasn't been changed since 1998!)

Customer Rating Well done TrinityGuildhall another fantastic set of very cleverly thought out and musical pieces and exercises. Very rewarding and inspiring. Come on AB keep up!

Customer Rating One octave scales do not prepare anyone for anything! slightly odd set of exercises but pieces are good - not exciting with lack of moving around like LCM step exams. Have not found it useful
I use AB prep test for nervy pupils and its then got them fab grade one results, trinity do not encourage theory or sightreading as I have taken pupils on who have never sightread or done theory even with higher grades!
Lovely book but not as exam for us

Customer Rating An excellent next step between beginners books and Grade 1. I bought it for a friend after being delighted myself with the Trinity guitar grade series and am equally pleased with the piano series.
