Musicroom Reviews

Rating Review
Customer Rating This is a great book for beginner to intermediate singing groups and choirs. The arrangements use simple harmony and interesting rhythmical patterns creating texture to well known pop tunes making them appealing and fun. They work very well a cappella.

Customer Rating This book contains some easy harmonies which are very effective for beginner choirs.

Customer Rating Dull. Arrangements mainly "tune on top" and unison beneath with far too much "doo be doo be doo-ing". The first song could be a great intro to unison singing, but otherwise this is an unappealling song collection.

Customer Rating I liked the selection of pieces for the choir but was disappointed in many in that the alto line is very uninspiring.

Customer Rating These are great songs but the arrangements don't always lead to the most obvious harmony lines. We've recorded our own backing track for God Only Knows to make it easier to pitch, and the repeated "I know"'s in Ain't No Sunshine proved a challenge until we split the group even further and they do 4 sets each (easier to count!) On the whole I'm glad I bought them though. California Dreaming is a favourite!

Customer Rating Lovely arrangements, reasonably simple, although some still a challenge for my choir of total beginners. But they are enjoying them. Would love to see more of the same!

Customer Rating Excellent. I am surprised as how challenging this is. Great fun though.

Customer Rating We have sung 5 of these over the past year in our community choir, all of them have been well-received. A great selection of songs!

Customer Rating This collection of ten three-part a cappella arrangements contains several classic songs. The arrangements are just what they say – easy arrangements. They work fine, but are in generall not very exciting. Most of the arrangements have one part singing the melody, and the other two “accompanying” the melody with do-do-do-parts in rhythms, maybe adding a small portion of text on the refrain. This makes some of the parts rather boring to sing, but to be fair it also makes it easy to sing, and also easy to learn by heart.
I have mainly used these arraingements in three-part womens choirs. The alto-(tenor)-part is often very low, usually keeping between the notes g and d and seldom singing above g1. I found this helpful when working with older womens voices, who had trouble singing in their head voice. The top soprano part does often sing upp to d2, e2, f2 and above, so you need some strong soprano voices to manage these notes!
Another point to mention is that most of the songs are from the sixties and early seventies, meaning middle-aged people will probably recognize just about every song from their youth and love singing them!
I’d recommend this book to anyone working with basic choirs who need easy arrangements. It doesn’t work as well if you want to use it for example as a three-part ladies arrangement for the ladies in an advanced mixed choir, as I originally had hoped.
