This bittersweet song was famously sung by Fred Astaire in the 1937 film 'Shall We Dance?' Lines from Ira Gershwin's lyric seem to have suggested the dreamy middle section: "...The way your smile just beams, The way you sing off key, The way you haunt my dreams..."

Rating Review
Customer Rating I love this quartet 'They can't take that away from me'. It is quite hard to settle on a tempo that everyone in the quartet likes. Personally I prefer a 'very lively' start and then settle into the well known tune at a moderato tempo. There is a temptation to take it too slow and then the 'dreamy section' becomes 'spaced out' and the whole piece goes on forever. The quavers are 'straight' and not 'swing', which can make it seem dull if the speed is too slow.
The cellist in my quartet would disagree with me.
