Description

18 studies written to develop familiarity with the main types of scales and arpeggios in Jazz. More enjoyable than the scales themselves, James Rae has deliberately chosen keys that give a comfortable, user-friendly introduction to the various tonalities. Each section describes a particular type of scale and includes studies based on it. Included are: the major scale, the dorian mode, the mixolydian mode, the minor pentatonic scale, the Jazz melodic minor scale, the blues scale, the chromatic scale, the whole tone scale and the diminished scale.

Rating Review
Customer Rating One of the books required for the Jazz Sax exams. Makes scales etc much more interesting for the player, and much more interesting for the listener!
Anon.

Customer Rating I use this for the technical exercises in the Trinity Guildhall Jazz exams but the studies actually are very good for helping my improvisation students. Some of the studies are quite fun to play.

Customer Rating This is being used by my 12 year old son who has been learning to play the sax for just over a year at school - recommended by his teacher and he seems to be using it with ease and the presentation is clear.
Would have like the CD to have been included - we had to buy one separately - having said that we got it online, used, for a couple of quid.
