Doctor Jazz Volume 5 features Eddie Condon’s Band with the legendary cornetist Wild Bill Davison. Dating from between 1950 and 1952, the Doctor Jazz series was a weekly 30 minute radio show, presenting some of the finest Dixieland Jazz of the time, live from New York City. This CD contains some of the very best soundtracks, drawn from eight different shows and edited together in the superlative manner we expect from Storyville Records.
Eddie Condon (1905-1973) was a guitarist and bandleader. Originally from Chicago, he moved to New York in 1929 and eventually started the nightclub that bore his name. He famously never took solos himself, letting the rest of his band take the limelight, but nonetheless provided much of the creative impetus behind their music.
